The rapid growth of e-commerce makes more and more people want to grab a “piece of the pie” and open their own online store. That’s great, but if you want to make money, you have to face a lot of competition. There are many CMSs to choose from, on which you can put your store: one of them is Magento. Setting up a store is only the beginning, however, because it’s hard to sell if virtually no one visits.
Today I’m taking on Magento SEO – if you already have a store on this CMS or want to set one up, get back to me. I will help you get off to a good start with your store or analyze what to do to increase sales.
What is worth knowing about Magento?
First, Magento SEO requires an understanding of the platform, as it comes in more than one version:
- Magento Open Source (formerly Magento Community Edition) – an open source platform, much like PrestaShop or WooCommerce. Magento was acquired by Adobe, but remains open source software. Developers here have the ability to expand the functionality of the store, so the platform can grow along with your business.
- Magento 2 – the architecture of Magento 2 is different from other versions, it has been technically improved. It is designed for small, medium and large businesses.
- Magento Commerce/Adobe Commerce – is a project that integrates Magento’s sales, marketing and product teams with Adobe Experience Cloud, hence the rebranding to Adobe Commerce in 2021.
- Magento Commerce (local software – installed on computers at your company’s headquarters, not in the cloud or server farm) – Formerly called Magento Enterprise Edition. It comes from Magento Open Source and has the same source files. The difference is that it is not free and has more functionality. Magento Commerce in this version is designed more for larger companies that can afford to invest in technical support. Annual fees and hosting are necessary, but it is worth remembering that with Magento Open Source you also have to pay for hosting.
Magento optimization: easy or not necessarily?
Magento is an e-commerce platform that is known for its scalability and functionality. It offers a wide range of SEO features that, if used correctly, can significantly increase the visibility of your online store. However, without proper optimization, even the most advanced CMS will not produce the expected results. The platform itself is not enough, even if it is tailored to businesses of different sizes, like Magento. SEO takes time and knowledge – not even the best plugin can replace it. So if you don’t feel up to spending hours on analysis and optimization, it’s better to leave it to an SEO specialist.

How to start Magento SEO: step by step
As always in SEO, Magento requires patience. It’s a long-term process that doesn’t yield results almost immediately, as Google Ads does. When dealing with Magento positioning, I take into account first of all:
- Page speed: one of the key factors affecting SEO is page load speed. Magento is known for being a “heavy” system, so it is necessary to optimize it for performance. This can include things like optimizing images, compressing CSS and JavaScript files, and using technologies such as lazy loading. If you want to make good use of Magento’s capabilities, programming will be essential. So when positioning online stores, I use the support of programmers.
- Meta data optimization: meta titles are the basic elements that help search engines understand what your site is about. Meta descriptions admittedly don’t directly affect SEO, but they can increase CTR from search results, and that’s already important for visibility. It takes time, but with the use of AI and a copywriter, it allows to increase the click-through rate of the site.
- Responsiveness: more and more people are shopping online using mobile devices. That’s why it’s important that your Magento store is responsive, that is, adapted to display on different devices. Responsiveness is no longer just a convenience, but also a ranking factor in Google. Again: a programmer’s support is useful here.
- Content optimization: the content on your site should not only be interesting and valuable to users, but also properly optimized for SEO. This means creating unique, valuable content that includes relevant keywords. So you need to spend time analyzing and selecting phrases, and then creating content.
- Building a link profile: internal links and external links are an important part of an SEO strategy. Good quality links to your site can increase its credibility and improve its positions in search results.
- Competitor analysis and keyword research: understanding which keywords are important to your business, as well as what your competitors are doing, takes time, but without it, it’s hard to talk about effective SEO.
Do you want to position your Magento store yourself? Sure! But it’s worth considering whether you have enough time, knowledge and skills to do so. Are you unsure? Call or write!
